London’s Marylebone is a residential area of excellent Georgian housing with fantastic shopping, especially for food, fashion and design. Its name is derived from a medieval church called St Mary-by-the-Bourne, which was built on the banks of the Tyburn River. Within the Marylebone area is Baker Street, which was the setting for Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Victorian detective stories. The study at 221b Baker Street (now a museum) is exactly as it was described in the Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson tales. Canteen is close by.
